Educational buildings in Malaysia are often designed based on the long term standard of architectural style. One can tell it is a school just by looking at its appearance. The design mainly focuses on the functionality and efficiency which contribute towards cost control and time factor, especially for government-owned educational buildings. Moreover, long term studies have been conducted in preparing an acceptable model for condusive learning environment based on students’ behavior and characteristics. However, there is room for improvement in providing more sustainable approach on educational building design. Operational cost can be reduced by applying passive design features into the existing building standard. Other factors such as safety and hazard should also be taken into considerations. To achieve this, several passive design strategies are applied in the proposal including the choice of material which are eco-friendly and cost effective. The design seeks to challenge educational building's attributes to become even more functional and practical than its traditional form.
